Crimson Tide Rewards Finds Success with Push Notifications

The University of Alabama uses push notifications at sporting events through the Crimson Tide Rewards program, as previously mentioned in 8 Push Notification Messages you Should be Sending to Your Fans.  In a recent survey conducted by Crimson Tide Rewards, fans let Alabama know they loved the push notifications they send out.

In the survey, Crimson Tide Rewards asked: “Are push notifications on the CTR App helpful?” The answer was yes, as 84% of the 145 respondents said they found the CTR app’s push notifications helpful.

1. Greet Fans Before the Game

Fans may come early to your game, so it is a good idea to welcome fans as they begin to arrive. By adding beacons to parking lot entrances and tailgate areas you can greet fans right away. You can also schedule your push notifications so that they only go out to fans that arrive before the game.

Extra Tip: Include a sponsor in the message and give extra points for tailgaters.

Welcome to your tailgating lot! Remember, a cold Budweiser makes every tailgate better. Can’t wait to see you at the game!

2. Remind Fans of Attendance Points

Make sure to send a push notification when your fans arrive to congratulate them on the points they have earned. Fan’s earn points through ticket scans, walking past a beacon, swiping a card on an iPad kiosk or by opening the rewards app inside the stadium.

Extra Tip: Customize the messages for every game. It will make each game a unique experience!

You just earned 500 points for attending this Alabama Football game vs. Auburn. This Iron Bowl should be one for the ages! Remember to stay late for 100 bonus points. #RollTide

3. Give Your Fans a Food Craving

You can remind fans to pick up some food in the concourse as they walk by a nearby beacon. Include a coupon in your push notification as an extra incentive for fans to visit your concessions.

Extra Tip:  Help out your sponsors, like Famous Dave’s, by sending a push notification to fans while they are walking nearby.

Smell that smoker? Grab a Famous Dave’s BBQ Brisket sandwich now. Straight ahead to your right under section 301, show this message and get $1 off.

4. Update Your Fans on Stats

Crimson Tide Rewards tracks who is at the game through multichannel attendance. The program’s ability to track individuals allows them to speak directly to the fans at the event. With this function, you can quickly send fans updates on statistics and enhance the in-game experience.

Extra Tip: Include a sponsor in your message. It’s easy for you and great exposure for them.

Halftime stats brought to you by Dr.Pepper: Harris (RB) has 102yrds and 1 TD, Bateman 8/12 with 2 TDs, and Griffith has 2 XP’s. Off to a great start!

5. Big Al Alert!

An excellent way to surprise your fans is to send them a push notification when your mascot is nearby. You can make this possible by placing a low proximity beacon on your mascot and setting up a triggered message when the mascot walks by a fan.

Extra Tip:  Place beacons by memorabilia, a sponsor’s booth or shop, or by other areas you want your fans to discover.

I think there’s an elephant in the room… -Big Al

6. Reminder for Stay Late Bonus Points

The end of games are when you need fans the most, so certainly you’d love it if your fans were still there. With Crimson Tide Rewards, Alabama can give bonus points out when a fan stays past a certain amount of time.

Extra Tip: Award bonus points for fans that arrive early to aid with traffic and get them to the game on time.

Stay another 45 minutes and earn 100 bonus points for staying late. We appreciate your support!

7.  Write a Thank-You

Through the use of beacons, Crimson Tide Rewards also knows when fans leave games. This technology allows Alabama to send notifications that thank fan’s time and support.  You can do this by setting up beacons in your parking lots and sending a delayed message about 20-30 minutes after they exit.

Extra Tip: Send them a thank you the next morning, simply by further delaying the automatic message.

Thank you for coming out to the game! We hope to see you next week when we take on Texas A&M!

8. The Rematch

After attending a game, a fan will likely want to go to a future game against that opponent. Crimson Tide Rewards uses multichannel attendance to know which fans attend games against particular teams. You can use this to target those fans by sending a push notification to them before the rematch arrives.

Extra Tip: Include an offer for a discounted ticket.

It’s time again to battle LSU, as a loyal Alabama fan we know you want to be there! Show your app and get $25 off your next ticket.

This list is just a start of the many ways you can target and time push notifications. As proven by the Crimson Tide Rewards survey, using push notifications can be a great way to help enhance the in-game experience for your fans.
